Austin Supported Employment Success Story

Austin Farr started his journey with JFI a year and a half ago. Initially, Austin was completing a three-month job shadow. But, in May of 2024, JFI determined to hire Austin as a part-time Shop Assistant.

At the beginning, Austin’s responsibilities were minimal, but as times gone on, he has learned new skills and abilities. His duties range from disposing of trash, recycling parts, emptying oil pans, removal of semi-trailer decals, mowing, snow removal, and so much more.

Since working with Austin, his confidence and moral have increased tremendously. He has learned what the expectations of having employment are and being receptive to constructive criticism as needed. JFI Manager, Nathan, along with his co-workers, have been a great support network for ensuring his long-term success.

Austin, we wish you all the best on your employment journey with JFI!

Krystle started her employment journey in search of a job; she was very excited and motivated to find one. Krystle was open to a few different employment avenues, she was open to custodial, stocking, daycare and bussing tables. We started looking around where she lives and applied for the different jobs in her area on her list of interests and then followed up in person with those employers. At that time there were no opportunities at these businesses.

We expanded our job search further away from home. Krystle and I went out job searching in the Lake Lorraine area, stopping at different businesses and talking to the HR Managers. We stopped at 5 Below, walked around the store to get an idea if Krystle was open to working there and she was interested. While walking around the store one of the employees working used to be Krystle’s school teachers and she remembered them. The General Manager overheard our conversation with the employee/teacher and approached us and said she would like to hire Krystle.

General Manager will be hiring Krystle to cashier, stock, fold clothes and make the store look nice and organized by facing items and putting items in their right spots on the shelves. Krystle started work on 8/22/25 and has been working at 5 Below a little over a month. Krystle is doing well and really likes her job and the people she works with. 5 Below is a great company with great staff. If you’re in the area stop by and support the business and say Hello to Krystle. Congratulations on the job Krystle!!

MJ Supported Employment Success Story

Mark has been successfully employed at Cracker Barrell since May of this year. You can find his friendly smile in the dish room working in the back with the kitchen crew. When he is not in the dish room area, he is cross trained in as the overnight cleaning position. He cleans and sanitizes with the crew during the overnight position.

Mark is a phenomenal and very reliable employee, always willing to help where he is needed and a great “go-getter” mentality. If he is not sure what he should be doing, he’ll find a task to accomplish. And let’s not forget the exceptional customer service and sociability within coworkers and customers that Mark offers. If a customer needs assistance, Mark makes that his main priority.

Fantastic work Mark, you deserve a pat on the back! Keep up the good work!

Callista (Cal) Holzemer came to our Employment Services Department as an external referral in July. As soon as her file was opened with the state, an application was submitted to Southeast Technical College. Shortly after, an interview was scheduled for a position on Southeast Technical campus.

With her perseverance and motivation to gain employment, she was able to get hired within less than one week of her case being opened. Now, Cal is employed by the Sioux Falls School District and is located at The Grille on Southeast Technical College campus. She spends her shifts cleaning the dining area, washing dishes, cleaning the BOH areas, and any other tasks delegated.

The Grille has been a wonderful employment setting for Cal; offering her encouraging words and guidance to learn new skills. Cal knows this isn’t her “forever job” but is excited about this new opportunity. Way to go!

Supported Employment Success Story

Adam Manson started his job search to look for competitive employment. Adam was looking to work with animals, or custodial, or warehouse type jobs as areas of interest. We applied to many pet stores and dog daycares and struggled with finding employment in this area. We changed our search to other areas of interest of custodial and warehouse.

We searched online and applied for custodial and warehouse production jobs. Preform Solutions reached out and we set up an interview. Adam did well in the interview, and we set up a job try out, that way Adam can get an idea of what the job entails and to see if it will be a job he likes and wants to pursue. Adam did the job try out, did well and really liked the type of work he would be doing. Adam was offered the position of sorter, where he will look for defects in their preform plastics.

Preform Solutions Inc. is a preform plastic molding company. They custom design preform plastics and inserts for water bottles, condiment bottles, beverages, liquor, edible oils, dairy, household chemicals and many more applications. Thank you, Preform Solutions, for working with LifeScape and hiring Adam. Congratulations Adam on your new job.
