Obituary for Eugene Francis Lewis

Eugene Francis Lee (May 22, 1946 - Nov. 6, 2019)

Eugene Francis Lewis was born May 22nd, 1946 to Oliver and Coletta Lewis in Sioux Falls SD. He was one of six children in the Lewis family.

Eugene attended Crippled Children’s Hospital and School from the age of five years until moving to Redfield State Hospital and School. In 1977 he enrolled at United Cerebral Palsy (Sioux Falls, SD) and was there until 1983 when he came to Sioux Vocational Services (f/k/a SD Achieve, now called LifeScape).

He lived in his own apartment until 1996 when he decided he no longer wanted to live alone. He lived at Churchill, Cathy and Hollister until finding his home at Stephen in 2001.

Eugene had always enjoyed working. He once shined shoes at the YMCA. He was dedicated to working at LifeScape‘s Shop 3 and Achievement room until he decided to retire in 2015.

Eugene was most proud of his trip to “Disney” in California in 2005. He had worked hard to save the money for this trip and was able to reunite with his brother Bill.

Eugene was a man of routine. He enjoyed camping, fishing and celebrating events with cake. He loved making picture calendars every year, attending country music concerts, watching his shows and most of all, going out to eat.

Eugene had many special friends in his life. He enjoyed spending time with Dr. and Mrs. Bob Vessey, Vicki Arndnt, Kathy K and his many friends at LifeScape.

Eugene will always be remembered for his smile.
